PANDEMIC FLU PREPAREDNESS AND RESPONSE PLANNING

Now is the time to prepare your community or business to survive a pandemic flu. We can help you understand your risks and come up with a plan to meet them head on. It is vital for you to know how to stay healthy and keep your customers and employees healthy. You also need to know what the potential impact of a pandemic is to your business and how to prepare to mitigate those risks. Preparing is the only way to sustain your business through a pandemic.

PRE-DISASTER MITIGATION PLANS

Our cost-effective mitigation recommendations will maintain or enhance the natural and built environment of your community as well as the quality of life. Our recommended strategies will also foster local resiliency to disasters and identify and respond to community concerns and issues. We take into consideration all natural and man-made hazards as well as induced or multiple hazard situations. After gathering essential data, including information regarding demographics, critical facilities, and hazard history, we will conduct a thorough hazard risk assessment. In addition, we conduct public meetings which are essential to the mitigation process. Following this, we will write an All-Hazard Mitigation Plan that, when implemented, will accomplish the following tasks:

  • Reduce the impact of physical, social, emotional and economic damage due to disasters;
  • Meet FEMA requirements and enable a community to receive funding for mitigation projects;
  • Engage the community members and utilize their input.

EMERGENCY EVACUATION AND PREPAREDNESS PLANS

Our Emergency Evacuation and Preparedness Plans meet the requirements of the California Gaming Commission, CGCC-7 Regulation. We also create evacuation and preparedness plans for Indian Reservations and other small communities and businesses. We consider all hazards, including induced or multiple hazard situations, such a fire that follows an earthquake and causes additional injuries. In addition, we foster partnerships with local governments and community groups to ensure that communication is as efficient as possible and that resources are shared appropriately.

These plans create a chain of command and provide specific procedures to follow during an emergency, including one serious enough to call for an evacuation. The creation of the plans also includes staff training and exercises with local first responders. In addition, our plans concur with the National Incident Management System (NIMS) which establishes standardized incident management processes, protocols, and procedures that all responders—Federal, state, tribal, and local—use to coordinate and conduct response actions. Finally, the plans we create focus on business continuity.

HAZUS USER GROUPS AND PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

The mission of a HAZUS User Group includes the following goals: to develop public-private partnerships that facilitate the use of HAZUS and the use of HAZUS risk assessments; to support HAZUS use by offering HAZUS training, providing technical assistance, and encouraging Level 2 data collection; to provide a communication loop between FEMA and HAZUS users; to give FEMA HAZUS utilization information and software feedback; to distribute information from FEMA regarding HAZUS updates, national conferences, and training opportunities; and to promote HAZUS scenario-based risk assessments by demonstrating the benefits and the capabilities of HAZUS.

Jamie Caplan Consulting LLC has developed this mission and provides technical assistance to the over twenty HAZUS User Groups that exist nationwide. Our work with the HAZUS User Groups has included the creation of many publications including FEMA 404, "How to Create a HAZUS User Group," as well as published success stories. In addition, Jamie Caplan Consulting LLC has written strategic plans with many of the groups, created marketing materials for them, and facilitated national and regional HAZUS Users conferences.

Jamie Caplan Consulting LLC is currently under contract with the Federal Emergency Management Agency to provide technical assistance to HAZUS User Groups.
