The SCRCOG region covers approximately 570,000 people, or 1/6th of the State of Connecticut’s population. The significance of the South Central Region Multi-Jurisdiction Hazard Mitigation Plan Update is that it provides the Region with regional mitigation priorities and actions as well as prioritized actions for each of the 14 participating jurisdictions.
Participating in a multi-jurisdiction plan was a way for the fourteen jurisdictions to achieve economies of scale. This Plan defines responsibilities and analyzes local capacities and capabilities to manage mitigation projects.
This Multi-Jurisdiction Hazard Mitigation Plan Update defines risk and vulnerability in a systematic manner and analyzes the vulnerability of critical structures with respect to mapped known natural hazard areas. It also provides a framework for informed decision-making regarding prioritization of mitigation projects that will ensure both the protection of life and property and cost-effective use of taxpayer’s funds.
